Plymouth Pod #08

This week in Plymouth

This week there is a lot to celebrate given it’s Pi day and of course, St. Patrick's day on Monday. I’ve included event highlights happening in the area for folks who are looking to get festive.

Before we get into, just one quick little itsy bitsy thing…Please keep sharing this newsletter with friends and/or enemies, thanks 🙏

Last week’s trivia question sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole on Bug Light—one of the historical landmarks you can spot from the Plymouth waterfront.

Officially known as Duxbury Pier Light, it first lit up on September 15, 1871, guiding mariners safely past the treacherous shoal off Saquish Head. Fast forward nearly a century to 1964, and it was automated - no more lighthouse keepers needed.

But here’s where it gets interesting—by 1983, the Coast Guard planned to swap Bug Light for a simple fiberglass pole. Luckily, a group of passionate preservationists stepped in. Enter Project Bug Light, a team that struck a deal: the Coast Guard would maintain the lower portion, while the group would take care of the upper part. Thanks to their efforts, Bug Light still stands today, keeping history alive. Curious to learn more? Check out Project Bug Light’s website here

It’s pi day this Friday so if you are looking to celebrate the most delicious mathematical holiday, Keegan Kreations has pies you can order. Linking the order form here. Additionally, Local Eats Week is in full swing through Friday.  If you haven’t already, check-out participating restaurants linked here. Enjoy the festivities—whether you're savoring π or pie.
