Following the positive response to last week's history section, I’m continuing the theme with another look back at Manomet’s past. This week, we revisit the Mayflower Inn at Manomet Point.
First opening its doors on June 30, 1917, the Mayflower Inn was part of Plymouth’s coastal summer hotel era, drawing visitors eager to enjoy its beachside charm. The hotel thrived, expanding to include cottages along Taylor Avenue, oceanfront rooms, and a restaurant. A fun fact: the bathrooms even had saltwater! Over the years, the inn became a popular venue for wedding receptions and high school proms.
However, tragedy struck in the 1970s. A fire in 1973 caused significant damage, and a second fire in 1977 led to the hotel’s permanent closure. Though the Mayflower Inn is gone, it remains a cherished part of Manomet’s history.

Tonight, the Moon shines brightly as an 83.6% illuminated Waning Gibbous. The night stretches nearly 12 hours, with sunset at 6:52 PM and sunrise at 6:47 AM. Nautical twilight fades at 7:53 PM and returns at 5:46 AM. A rare celestial event offers skywatchers the chance to see Venus in both the evening and morning sky. While Mercury and Saturn remain elusive, Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus will be visible after sunset—Mars setting at 4:04 AM and Jupiter at 1:15 AM. For a clearer view of Uranus, grab binoculars before it dips below the horizon at 11:36 PM.
Until next week - I’ll see you out there. Don’t hesitate to reach out to say hi!
