Hi All! Happy April, and a warm welcome to the newest members of The Pod!
Last week, we announced the Plymouth Pod Discount Card, and the feedback has been amazing—it totally made my week! The next step is partnering with local businesses to offer one-time discounts for the first edition of the card. We're securing the remaining partners, but I’m excited to announce the businesses that have already signed on. Drum roll please...

We’re continuing conversations with more businesses and will announce new partners as they join in. If you're a local business interested in participating, give me a shout at [email protected]!
There will be a limited number of cards available (100–150). Pricing is still being finalized, but I want this to be a total no-brainer for you all. If you want to be first in line to get your hands on one, just email me and say YES. And if you’ve already reached out—you're on the list, and I’ll be in touch once we go live. Promise!

The herring run in Plymouth’s Town Brook has been an essential part of the region’s natural and cultural heritage for over 400 years. When the Pilgrims arrived in 1620, they learned from Squanto how to use herring from this very brook to fertilize their crops.
Historically, Town Brook supported up to two million river herring annually. But as dams and industrial development blocked access to spawning grounds, populations sharply declined. In 2002, Plymouth became a pioneer in river restoration by removing the first coastal dam in Massachusetts—a milestone that launched a statewide movement.
Since then, five dams have been removed from Town Brook alone, reopening the river and giving fish renewed access to long-blocked habitat. Today, with support from the town, state, and federal partners, along with hundreds of volunteers who count fish each spring, Town Brook is one of the most studied and successful herring runs in the Northeast.
Modern tracking methods, including underwater cameras and fish tagging, continue to inform restoration efforts and show strong signs of recovery, giving hope that the herring population may one day return to its historic levels.
If you’d like to participate in this year’s festivities, check-out The Herring Run Celebration on April 26th at Plimoth Grist Mill from 10am-3pm for friendly activities including herring counts, alewife art, games, live music & more! Chat with local scientists, help contribute to ongoing herring research, and more (event info)

The Moon cozying up to the Pleiades star cluster—visible in Plymouth and even occulting it in parts of Europe! Venus and Mercury will sparkle briefly before sunrise, while Mars and Jupiter shine bright after sunset. For the best views, head out after twilight ends at 8:10 pm.
